Band Director

Mr. Michael Basham

 

 

Mr. Basham began his career in 1992 teaching elementary, middle and high school Band, Chorus, general music and Marching Band for Manassas Park City Schools.  In 1997, he accepted a position at Christiansburg High School where he taught award winning bands and piano.

 

Two years later Mr. Basham went to Loudoun County as the band director at Park View High School where he taught award winning ensembles including: Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Guitar, Marching Band, Music Theory and AP Music Theory and served as the Fine Arts Department Chair until 2006. 

 

Desiring more time with his family, Mr. Basham moved to Mercer Middle School (Loudoun County) in 2007 where he taught 6th and 7th grade Band, Percussion Ensemble and 6th grade Music Lab.  

 

In 2009, Mr. Basham had the opportunity to come to Osbourn Park where he is “blessed to work with such wonderful students.”  He is currently teaching Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Music Theory and Marching Band. 

 

Mr. Basham’s bands have won numerous first place awards across the country and he has the distinction of having the only high school band to be given permission by Donald Trump to perform at the Trump Tower in New York City.  

 

Mr. Basham’s teaching awards include:

  • Presidential Citation from the Governor’s School of Virginia Outstanding Educator Award, 2001
  • Recognition in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2006
  • Recognition in Who's Who In America, 2006
  • Certificate of Commendation for the National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers Award, 2006
  • Teacher Honoree at Loudoun County Public Schools Excellence in Education Banquet, 2001, 2002
  • Teacher Honoree for Park View High School Patriot Achievement Towards Success Award, 2001, 2003, 2006
  • Service Award from the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association at the Virginia Music Educators National Conference, 2006

He has a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Radford University with concentrations in Flute Performance, Vocal Performance, and Music Education and a Master of Science degree in Education from Shenandoah University with a concentration in Educational Administration and Leadership.  He is endorsed K-12 in Instrumental and Vocal Music and  K-12 Administration/Supervision (Principal).

 

Mr. Basham enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, chocolate, computers, gardening, instrument repair and working as choir director for his church.  He would like to welcome you to the wonderful bands at Osbourn Park High School.  “I believe all students can learn the skills needed to play wonderful music while having a lot of fun along the way.  My goal is to provide the highest quality music education possible so students will develop a life-long love of music and an appreciation for all music styles and genres.”
