Mr. Basham has been in education for 19 years and is excited about another great year at Osbourn Park HS.
In 1992, Mr. Basham began his career teaching elementary, middle, and high school band, chorus, general music and marching band for Manassas Park City Schools.
In 1997, Mr. Basham accepted a position at Christiansburg High School where he taught award winning bands and piano.
In 1999, Mr. Basham came to Loudoun County as the band director at Park View High School where he taught award winning ensembles including: Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Guitar, Marching Band, Music Theory and AP Music Theory and served as the Fine Arts Department Chair until 2006.
In 2007, Mr. Basham desiring more time with his family decided to move to Mercer Middle School where he taught 6th and 7th grade band, percussion ensemble and 6th grade music lab.
In 2009, Mr. Basham had the opportunity to come to Osbourn Park and is blessed to work with such wonderful students. Mr. Basham is currently teaching Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Music Theory and Marching Band.
Mr. Basham’s band’s have won numerous first place awards across the country and has the distinction of having the only high school band to be given permission by Donald Trump to perform at the Trump Tower in New York City.
Mr. Basham has received multiple teaching awards including:
· Received a Presidential Citation from the Governor’s School of Virginia Outstanding Educator Award in 2001.
· Recognition in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2006.
· Recognition in Who's Who In America in 2006.
· Received a Certificate of Commendation for the National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers Award in 2006.
· Teacher Honoree at Loudoun County Public Schools Excellence in Education Banquet in 2001 and 2002.
· Teacher Honoree for Park View High School Patriot Achievement Towards Success Award 2001, 2003, and 2006.
· Received Service Award from the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association at the Virginia Music Educator’s National Conference in 2006.
Mr. Basham is a member of the Music Educator’s National Conference, Virginia Music Educator’s Association, Virginia Education Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association, Prince William Education Association, Tri-M Music Honor Society and the Association of American Educator’s.
Mr. Basham has a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Radford University with concentrations in (Flute Performance, Vocal Performance, and Music Education). Mr. Basham has a Master of Science degree in Education from Shenandoah University with a concentration in Educational Administration and Leadership. Mr. Basham is endorsed K-12 in Instrumental and Vocal Music and K-12 Administration/Supervision (Principal).
Mr. Basham enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, chocolate, computers, gardening, instrument repair and working as choir director for his church. Mr. Basham would like to welcome you to the wonderful bands at Osbourn Park High School. I believe that all students can learn the skills needed to play wonderful music while having a lot of fun along the way. My goal is to provide the highest quality music education possible so that students will develop a life-long love of music and an appreciation for all music styles and genres.
